Hung Kuen Jing Chung

Welcome to HungKuen-JingChung.com, the home of a forum and blog dedicated to Hung Kuen kung fu.

Our aim is to encourage, through open discussion of all elements of the style, the practise of traditional Hung Kuen.

As with all Cantonese phrases, Hung Kuen Jing Chung has several meanings, but the most common translation is “Hung Kuen Orthodox Method”, or a variation on that theme.

Many kwoons display the characters, seen on the banner at the top of this page, but only a few are bestowed the true status behind them.

One of these is the London school of Jim Uglow (Essex Hung Kuen Association), with which this website is proudly associated.

Uglow Sifu was awarded the right to display the Jing Chung banner in July 1986 by his sifu the late Chan Hon Chung (1909-1991), co-founder of the Hong Kong Chinese Martial Arts Association. Chan Sigung, in turn, had been bestowed the distinction by his sifu Lam Sai Wing.

Uglow Sifu explains the real meaning of Hung Kuen Jing Chung as "going back to the origin”.

But what origin? Big question...

Have a look around, and hopefully you’ll find something here to inspire and encourage you on your Hung Kuen journey.
